IMG_2057Hey there, friends of CK!

Back again with another edition of the Weekly Warm-Up, post-holiday.

So what did you do this past weekend? Did you take a trip? Visit with family? Spend some time in or near the water? Watch a parade? Ooh and ahh over fireworks? Have a picnic or barbecue? Attend worship services? Chill out with friends?

Whatever adventures or ordinary moments comprised your July 4th celebrations, odds are you took some photos. If you’re like me, you probably took a LOT of photos. So today, let’s scrap those pics. Now, if you’re a chronological scrapper, I can already hear you: “Beth, I have to go in order. I can’t just drop everything and make this layout before I’ve documented all the other events that came first!”

And while what I REALLY want to say in response is, “Pshaw! There are no rules! It is totally fine to scrap out of order!” I will instead respect your ways and not stress you out. So grab a bunch of photos from an earlier event, and let’s get started.

If you’re a regular reader of Creating Keepsakes, you certainly are aware of our Becky’s Sketch column. So your layout inspiration today comes straight from our July issue. Using the sketch or one of its variations below, create a multiphoto layout with that stack of photos.  Edit carefully so you are only using the best and most representative pictures of your subject matter.

Why does this sketch work? The one larger focal-point photo in every case is balanced with a grouping of smaller photos, and the title and journaling spaces are treated as design elements as well, carefully placed to complement the photo arrangement. Feel free to adapt the sketch as desired to fit your style and needs, and when your layout is finished, be sure to upload it to our online gallery, so we can all see and admire the fruit of your labors!

And don’t forget: CK Summer Camp starts in ONE WEEK! Have you registered yet? Don’t miss out on all the fun!

  1. Are we supposed to receive something on the Summer Camp? I signed up when first heard about it and have not seen anything.

  2. Well, I already managed to scrap our 4th of July layout before I saw this post! I managed to fit 12 ~ 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 photos on a 1pg layout. We’ve done the same thing every 4th of July for the past 3yrs so I didn’t need a lengthy layout. You can see it here: http://meandmyscraps.blogspot.com/2009/07/where-did-day-go.html

But I think I may have to use one of Becky’s sketches for past 4th of July’s that I haven’t scrapped yet! Thanks for the inspiration :)

  3. Is Summer Camp still happening? Many of us signed up that first day and there was a promise of some freebies for early registration. No one has received anything yet, according to dialog on the MB. Do you have any info?

  4. Thanks for posting the sketches! I appreciate that you put the dimensions of the smaller photos in, because I have struggled in the past with figuring out the actual dimensions of the smaller squares/shapes when trying to replicate a sketch published in CK. If you could try and include dimensions of all photo sizes for sketches in future publications it would be great! Thanks.
