Hello!

I’m Jessica Sprague. For those of you who may not know me, I write the “Computer Tricks” column for the magazine each month and I recently released the latest special issue in my series, Computer Tricks for Scrapbooking 3. Combining paper with digital elements (also known as hybrid scrapbooking) is one of my favorite techniques, and I’m so excited for the opportunity to participate in the CK blog and share a few tips with you!

I’ve got a tutorial that I hope you’ll find useful—and easy! I’ve taken two techniques from my “Photo Editing: Good-to-Great Workflow” class that I hope you’ll love. I use them all the time! Our technique is actually two parts:

  • Convert a photo to Black-and-White
  • Convert a photo to Sepia-tone

Photoshop Elements has a really good automated black and white conversion command that is SO EASY you will not believe it. And I’ll show you how to take your black and white and add a sepia tone—anywhere from a little hint of color all the way to a true sepia. You’ll LOVE the results, and you’ll be amazed at how quick it is to do. All you need is one photo, a copy of Photoshop Elements and this tutorial!

  194. I love the preview you showed; so easy to follow and understand. I’d like to know a little more detail on why/how you do something. For example, in the preview you changed the photo to black & white and told how to do it but you didn’t explain what makes a good black & white photo.   196. I love the classes you offer! They are so easy to follow, with relevant directions that are easy to remember! I have PS CS3, and am slowly learning the intricacies of it… there are so many things to use, I am always looking for more! My family has jokingly said that if I am with them, they leave their cameras at home (and they really do!), so anything that will help with photo taking and digiscrapping is a great find!   275. Wow, Jessica…I would LOVE to win this awesome prize!!! I’ve been wanting to learn digital scrapbooking for a long time (my kids even gifted me Photoshop Elements 7.0 for Christmas). I’ve just been too intimidated to give it a shot…I’ve visited your site many times and even took your “Stories in Hand” class last fall. What an inspiration AND great timing for me. I started interviewing my dad using your suggested topics and when we lost him in February, I was comforted by the fact that he had told me AND I had documented much of his story.
